Happy International Widows Day! Seems I have made it but just! It has come to my attention for those of you who don’t know about Captain Grief because you haven’t read my memoir or blog and have not seen me perform you may have no idea who this crazy woman in the mask is! I’ll make it simple. No one can make you survive the loss of a partner. You have to do it on your own. The thing is, you are absolutely not doing it alone.
I am a writer and theatre student who has taken the most awful experience of my life, and turned it into something I am proud of. Something that I could look at and say this is how I can put some good out into the world. After the accidental death of my 35 year old wife and becoming a 34 year old widow, Captain Grief is the character that I created to contain all of my rage and my sorrow and my guilt, as well as my need to laugh and make this crappy thing way less serious!
She is the way I engineered her, not just my survival but my future success and I want her out there for as many widow or widowers who need that kind of thing. If you know someone who might need her, please consider subscribing to my social media and sharing my posts!
